Getting Wiser

Since yesterday's braces pain came mostly when I ate, I decided to follow what everyone was telling me and eat soft foods. And guess what? It actually worked! Today was so much better.

Great foods to eat after getting braces:

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Fruit, especially ripe ones
  • Soup
  • Noodles
  • Rice
  • Bread
  • Yogurt
  • Smoothies and milkshakes
  • and of course, Ice cream.
There are also lots of recipes online you can find for more soft foods. You will only have to eat these while your mouth adjusts to the braces.

I am super excited to see my smile when I am done with this process, but until then- I will be eating lots of soft foods and eating slowly.

Disney Day

Today was my first day at Disneyland with braces! I was tempted to eat all the delicious goodies, but all the things I wanted were hard and I thought that it would be better to stick with softer foods as I am still getting used to my braces. While I am straightening my teeth, I feel like I will be losing weight since I am paying more attention to each and every bite. I am questioning if the food is "worth" the cleaning I am going to have to do to maintain good hygiene.

My favorite Disney character with braces!

My disney day was very fun. I didn't have that much pain today until late at night. I had the opportunity to meet one of my best friend's newborn son and I did a lot of talking. My gums were more sore at night from rubbing against my braces. Other than that, I thought it was a very good braces day. One of my friends didn't even realize I had them until I told her! Another great plus about these 6 month braces.
With sweet Anakin! You can hardly see my braces, but take a good look at that snaggletooth.
It won't be around much longer.

I am getting a lot of questions about my braces. If you are interested in getting them, I highly recommend  going to my dentist, Dr. Capio! Give him a call at 310-822-4340 or check him out online at http://www.dentalsolutionsla.com

Even if you don't live in Los Angeles, it's totally worth the drive! Appointments are only once a month and you can come and visit me while you are here!

Second Day of Braces

Yesterday my friends kept asking me if my teeth were sore and if I was in pain. The answer was honestly, no. I made soup the night before knowing that I should probably eat soft foods and did pretty well throughout the rest of the day. Today is a different story!

It hurts whenever I eat.  And since I like to eat a lot, I was in a lot of pain! I've been hearing from a lot of friends and family, who have had braces before, that this is what usually happens in the first 48 hours or so. They advised if it is too painful to take some type of pain killer. My pain wasn't that bad that I needed to take meds, so I think we are still doing well.

Dr. Capio checked in with me today to see how I was doing. It was very comforting to hear from him, as this is a new experience for me. If you are considering braces please don't  make this post deter you from getting them. As I am typing, my teeth are already starting to feel better!

6 months to an even better smile!

Throughout my life, I have always been told that I had a great smile and it isn't because I have perfectly straight, white teeth. It's because it's big and I am usually happy! I remember wanting braces when I was younger, but because my teeth weren't super crooked, it was never really a necessity.

Earlier this month, my dentist, Dr. Capio,  asked me a simple question- "How would you like to have straight teeth by your next dental visit?" I was already a couple months behind for my routine cleaning and I felt like I was just at the dentist, so it really got me thinking! The answer was yes! I would love to straighten my teeth in just six months. So I made an appointment and got braces!

I was really excited about today. I went to the dentists office and ran into one of my best friends! It was a great way to start off my braces experience.

I didn't know what to expect when Dr. Capio started. The whole procedure was actually better than I thought. I actually thought it would be more painful and I even asked if "that was it?"  I left the office feeling awesome! I took this picture to send to my family who were waiting to see what I looked like.

I met up with my friend who was watching my two year-old daughter,  Emilia for me (Thank you Jessi!) and had lunch. I ordered the soup and some chicken salad. When I was done with my soup, I tried a bite of the chicken salad and it was a weird experience to chomp down for the first time. I was worried something would happen! This was the first time I felt some pain. It was from the braces rubbing against the sides of my mouth. Dr. Capio gave me some wax for this occasion, so the pain went away rather quickly.

It's been almost 12 hours since I've had my braces. So far:

  • I love how these 6 month braces are clear and not that noticeable.
  • I am excited for straight teeth in around six months.
  • I've already had food stuck in my teeth, but it's actually quite fun to pick it out.
  • I am embracing the fact that I have braces. I think it will take some time getting used to.

I am really excited about getting braces. I think this will be a fun journey to a straight smile! So brace yourself and follow me on my journey!
